Many things are scheduled in weeks rather than days: a 6-week training plan, a 12-week lease notice, a 40-week pregnancy, an 8-week course. This calculator adds (or subtracts) any number of weeks to a date and shows exactly which calendar date and weekday you land on. You can also add a few extra days for spans such as “3 weeks and 2 days”.

How to use the weeks from date calculator

  1. Pick the start date. It defaults to a sample date; change it to today or any other date.
  2. Enter the number of weeks. Whole numbers work best; a value like 6 means 42 days.
  3. Add extra days if you need a span that is not a whole number of weeks.
  4. Choose the direction — after the start date to look ahead, before it to look back.
Weeks from a date +0w +1w +2w +3w +4w Start date Result date + N × 7 days 1 week = 7 days · 52 weeks = 364 days calcmaple.com
Each week adds exactly 7 days, so the result always lands on the same weekday as the start date.

Weeks from date formula

New date = start date ± (weeks × 7 + extra days)

The calculator turns the start date into a day number, adds or subtracts the total days, and converts back to a calendar date, so it handles different month lengths and leap years without any manual counting. Because 7 days is exactly one week, the weekday stays the same when you add only whole weeks.

Worked example: 6 weeks from October 15, 2026

  1. Convert weeks to days: 6 × 7 = 42 days.
  2. October 15 + 16 days reaches October 31, leaving 26 days to count.
  3. 26 days into November lands on Thursday, November 26, 2026.
  4. Both dates fall on the same weekday, as expected.

Common week-based spans

  • 2 weeks — standard notice for many resignations and the length of a biweekly pay period.
  • 4 weeks — often used as a “month” in project plans, although 4 weeks is only 28 days.
  • 12 weeks — a typical training-program or school-term length (84 days).
  • 40 weeks — full-term pregnancy as counted from the last menstrual period (280 days).
  • 52 weeks — 364 days, one day short of a common year.

Weeks versus months

A month is not a whole number of weeks. Months are 28 to 31 days, so “4 weeks from now” and “1 month from now” usually give different dates. If a contract or deadline says “one month”, add a calendar month with the Months From Date Calculator calculator; if it says “four weeks”, use this one.

To count the days between two dates instead, use the Days Until Calculator calculator, or see the full Date Calculator for adding days and counting weekdays.

Frequently asked questions

What is 6 weeks from today?

Add 42 days to today’s date. For example, 6 weeks after October 15, 2026 is Thursday, November 26, 2026.

Why is the answer always the same day of the week?

A week is exactly 7 days, so adding whole weeks never changes the weekday. 6 weeks from a Thursday is always another Thursday. Add extra days to land on a different weekday.

How many weeks are in a year?

52 weeks and 1 day in a common year (365 days), or 52 weeks and 2 days in a leap year (366 days). That is why “52 weeks from today” falls one day before the same date next year.

Can I count weeks backward?

Yes. Choose “Before the start date” to find, for example, the date 12 weeks ago or 40 weeks before a due date.

How do I find a date a number of weeks and days away?

Enter the whole weeks and put the leftover days in the extra-days box. 2 weeks and 3 days is 17 days in total.
